1TB External hard drive

The Portable 1 TB external hard drives has really become popular in recent times among folks, I think the reason why these devices have become really popular is the fact that they let you quadruple the size of data you would normally store in your computer hard drive. I remember the time when the 250 GB external hard drive was released and I was like “wow…!! I don’t need all this space” but I learned the hard way because soon enough a 500 GB external hard drive wasn’t enough to keep all the data that I hard to store for my clients and also my personal data (before the 1tb external hard drive was released). Which brings me to 1 TB external hard drive (TB means terabyte which is equivalent to 1000 GB); now this drive in itself doesn’t really need a lot of explanation as it screams “hey, I can store 4 times the amount of data your computer internal hard drive can store”. These drives unlike the normal hard drive that is found inside your computer are connected from the outside using some interface wire such as USB 2.0, USB 3.0, FireWire 400, and FireWire 800. Initially computers weather laptops or desktops are supposed to come with an in-built hard drive that stores data inside but the fact that technology is fast becoming insane, it has brought about three kinds of problems at least the ones I see frustrating;

1) Firstly, quality of data is being is improving day by day meaning it only makes sense that the files should be bigger. For example if you want the graphics of your favourite game “Need 4 Speed” to improve, then the end result will the size of the game growing bigger from 1.2 GB to lets say 1.95 GB and your computer hard hard drive disk has to store the files and with madness of graphics and sound quality in computer devices going on, don’t be surprised if you find a normal Mp3 song is 150 Megabytes. I have games as big as 9 GB or more, remember that company that manufactures these nice games wants to be the best in the industry and so they keep improving there graphics while the size of the game also keeps growing, you get the point right?!

2) Secondly, the issue of mobility has really become a major problem for some folks, I don’t know about you but as for me there are times when I need to move with my external hard drive and most of the times I need to go get software from a friend that can not fit in my memory stick, or maybe am just travelling and I need to move with some data (a lot of it!). This is were 1 TB external hard drives really comes in handy for me, now am not saying other external hard drives have stopped working and infact I only advise you to buy the 1 TB external hard drive if you really have a lot of data to store like me. Now most of the times I get questions like “hey, what external hard drive should I get? Should I get a 500 GB, 750 GB or 1 Terabyte?” and usually my answer would be “what do you need an external hard drive for?” and if the fellow says “am really into gaming and I store a lot of games on my Pc” or “I need to store data for my clients” or maybe “I’ve got a lot of movies and videos I need to store” and my answer would be 1 TB external hard drive straight away. There are two good reasons why my answer would be 1 TB external hard drive, firstly these kinds of people have a lot of data to store now or in the future and so buying a 500 GB hard drive would sound like a good decision, when in the actual sense it really isn’t the wisest thing to do because sooner or later you will need extra storage space and buying another external hard drive doesn’t like a good idea both technically and financially when you could have just bought a 1 TB external hard drive and probably saved 50% to 60%. And secondly buying a 1 TB external hard drive (or whatever capacity you buy) is probably the safest way to store data incase you have a system crush. This might happen for several reasons but the most common one is when you computer is infected with a virus.

3) The third reason is the issue of security, I have not gotten to check this out really but some people believe that its better to keep the most important data in an external hard drive, the logic here is that incase the computer that you normally use even for the internet is attacked or hacked somehow, the data you stored in an external hard drive will remain safe but this would actually make sense if you have anything confidential especially if you keep data for your clients or something like that.

External hard drives come in different sizes, brands and types such as 250 GB, 500 GB, 750 GB or 1 TB etc, the most important thing is to know what you want to use the hard drive for and then you will rightfully know which size you want and you won’t have any problems finding it. Always buy something that is popular in the community because chances are it’s really that good. Western digital’s my passport essentials 1 TB external hard drive has really gotten popular and has created a lot of buzz within the computer hardware community mainly because it is very portable and can probably fit in your jeans pockets, that being said I like to have the freedom putting information in my drive without worrying about the remaining space and that’s why I choose to go with the 1 TB external hard drive. Remember that a research is very important before you purchase anything and that where Google comes in.
